The University of Brighton is holding a symposium entitled ‘Responding to Young People Leading Chaotic Lives’ on Tuesday, 13th July, from 3.45 for 4.00 until 6.00. in room A501 in the Checkland Building at the University of Brighton’s Falmer Campus.
Background
Some young people’s lives are chaotic. This might be due to a number of underpinning reasons and combining factors, but their lives lack appropriate focus, structure and boundaries. Such young people can be very resilient and they may have developed qualities and coping mechanisms to withstand adverse and chaotic circumstances but their behaviours may not serve them well as they move into adulthood. Such young people benefit hugely from the sense of belonging, the quality of relationship and ‘mentorship’ and the structure and focus good youth projects can give. Here, the aim of the such provision is to foster healthy resilience and self-efficacy.
In particular, the Uni would like to explore:
-
Which services / organisations (both local authority and statutory services as well as private, voluntary and ‘third sector’ organisations) are currently working with such young people.
-
The extent to which such services might be seen to be effective and impacting positively in addressing these young people’s needs.
-
Which young people’s needs are not being addressed.
-
The potential for services and organisations to work collaboratively to more effectively address these needs.
See the following link for a map and directions. Drinks and light refreshments will be served. If you would like to attend please send an email to m.price@brighton.ac.uk
